SPG Group.
The strategic centre of the group — setting capital allocation, governance and partnership standards across every operating subsidiary.
Strategic Partners Group (Pty) Ltd is the parent holding company, formed in 2002 to compete for a stake in South Africa's major infrastructure projects on behalf of a broad-based shareholder coalition. Twenty-plus years later, it is the portfolio manager — not the operator — for every SPG subsidiary.
The group is headquartered at 1 Sandton Drive, with a dedicated operations office at the Growthpoint Midrand Office Park — close to the Gautrain construction and operating footprint it has been most closely associated with.
What SPG Group owns
SPG Group is the 100% shareholder of three wholly-owned operating subsidiaries:
- SPG Concessions — the vehicle through which SPG holds its Gautrain concession stakes.
- SPG Investments & Operations (SPGIO) — the operating-company arm (security, advertising, facilities services).
- SPG Construction — heavy civils and rail construction.
SPG Group also holds a 57% stake in Optinet Systems, acquired in August 2020 via Isithimela ICT Company (Pty) Ltd — the group's rail-telecoms platform.
How we think about capital
SPG is a holding company, not a conglomerate. Each subsidiary is run with operational independence and has its own leadership team, but strategy and major capital calls are coordinated through the group board.
A holding company's job is to hold its nerve. When everyone else is chasing the quarterly story, the parent is the one asking what compounds over twenty years.SPG Group governance philosophy
