Most patients ask the same six things in the first two minutes of a consultation. Here they are, answered upfront.

Yes. Consultations are charged at the standard South African medical aid tariff, and most major schemes (Discovery, Bonitas, Momentum, Medshield) reimburse dietetic consultations on a savings or threshold basis. Discovery Vitality also covers a registered Vitality Health Check assessment annually. We invoice you directly and you submit to your scheme — happy to walk you through it.
Sixty minutes for adults; seventy-five for paediatric. We cover medical history, family context, lifestyle and goals. You leave with a draft of the plan and any test referrals already in motion. Follow-ups are thirty minutes.
Yes — secure video consultations via a HIPAA-aligned platform. Initial paediatric and food-allergy consultations are best in person; almost everything else (including FODMAP, nutrigenomics analysis, postpartum and follow-ups) works seamlessly virtually.
3x4 Genetics is a clinically-validated panel that reads how your specific genes influence carbohydrate handling, fat metabolism, micronutrient processing, methylation and inflammatory response. The test is a simple cheek swab. Results come back in 3–4 weeks and we use them to write a precise, lifelong nutrition plan tailored to your biology.
Three phases over roughly 8–12 weeks. Phase 1 — Elimination (2–6 weeks): remove all high-FODMAP foods and stabilise symptoms. Phase 2 — Reintroduction (4–6 weeks): structured challenges to identify your personal triggers — this is where most self-led FODMAP plans go wrong. Phase 3 — Personalisation (ongoing): a sustainable diet built around what you actually tolerate. Most IBS patients see meaningful symptom reduction by the end of phase one.
For paediatric consultations, please do — the first session works best with the child present and at least one parent. For your own adult consultation, a quiet 60 minutes works best, but we have plenty of flexibility for postpartum mothers; bring baby if that's the only way to make the session happen.
