Reg was called to the Bar in 1995 and has been a practicing advocate for nearly 30 years. He has appeared in most divisions of the South African High Court, as well as in multiple cases before the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Appeal. His experience extends to Labour Courts, related tribunals, and arbitration fora. Beyond South Africa’s borders, he has also arbitrated in Europe under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce. He practices in both private and public law and has served in acting judicial appointments since 2017.
In the public law domain, Willis SC has a strong background in administrative law, covering a broad spectrum of matters, including environmental and mining law, as well as local government systems, structures, and responsibilities. He has been involved in significant public interest and constitutional rights litigation from the High Court to the Constitutional Court, with a particular focus on the protection of Family, Life, and Religious Liberty.
Willis SC has extensive expertise in civil, commercial, and corporate litigation, including insolvency and business rescue law. His practice covers company law under both the 1973 and 2008 Companies Acts, contractual law, and property law. He is well-versed in the law of delict, handling cases involving pure economic loss, personal injury, medical negligence, and fraud-related claims. His practice also includes matters of unlawful competition, intellectual property law, and select matrimonial and family law cases. He is highly experienced in arbitration, tribunal, and inquiry matters, having also served as a decision-maker in such proceedings.
An avid sportsman, Willis SC has summited four of the seven highest continental peaks. His passion for water sports includes canoeing, where he earned Springbok colors and competed internationally before being called to the Bar. He also enjoys sailing and powerboating.
He values family time and enjoys caravanning and overlanding, often traveling with family and friends.
He is married and has three adult daughters, a son-in-law, and a grandson.
