The Duma Nokwe Group of Advocates was established in 2003. The group was established, under the leadership of Patric Mtshaulana SC, as a transformation initiative which focused on the empowerment of historically disadvantaged persons within the referral advocates profession.
Collectively, we promote the views that realities such as poverty, underdevelopment and inequality are not immutable but rather that they are capable of extirpation. In order to reflect the principles entrenched in the Constitution of our country we are determined to promote policies which assist historically disadvantaged persons in the referral advocates profession so as to achieve complete transformation at the Bar.
Maintaining and promoting the highest standards of legal services and ethical conduct are intertwined with our core value of transformation. Our group is dedicated to ensuring that access to justice is facilitated to all in need.

Leadership in the profession and the judiciary.
Some of our members have acquired extensive experience and skill in the conduct of commissions of inquiry. Members of our group have led and participated in commissions of inquiry which have drawn national and international interest.
Every advocate within the group practises as an independent member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates and subscribes to the ethical code of conduct for the legal practice of an advocate. Our group is not only inward looking — it takes a keen interest in the training of future lawyers, the leadership of the advocates' profession and the strengthening of the judiciary.
We encourage our members to teach at universities, serve in the leadership of the organised advocates' profession and the legal profession generally, serve as acting judges and make themselves available for appointment as judges.
